Clear plastic cutlery laid on a laptop screen (which contains a polarising filter) and then photographed with another polarising filter on the camera lens. The colourful hidden stress patterns in the plastic are then apparent.

Ziggy, named after Ziggy Stardust, came to us one winter and although his stay was brief he made a huge impact. We had been playing and he had worked himself into a state and hid under the mat. I seized the opportunity, got down to ground level and took the picture.

This was taken at Belfast Zoo. I just thought it looked funny with different halves of 2 giraffes showing.

I walked past this mysterious fellow many times before I noticed him! Together with two other strange creatures, he is lurking in an old wall alongside a lane in Hayfield, Derbyshire. I have no idea how he got there. He blends in very well with the weathered stone and always makes me smile when I spot him.

I found this little house in the woods in Nidderdale Yorkshire, I hung around for a while to see who lived there but saw nothing, they must have been having a lie-in that morning.

There are alien worlds hidden in plain sight. This makes me think of a star meeting an ice giant. It is a paperweight (egg-shaped) in a glass ashtray.

Our dog Morris always looks for the warmest place to sunbathe, for a while at least. Sometimes, when he's on the gravel, it's hard to spot him. He's a chameleon dog. Almost hidden.

Looking for an original way to photograph the Harringworth Viaduct, I found this rustic sheep shelter nestled beneath the imposing arches. It seemed to me to be hiding from the world - ashamed, perhaps, of its humble brickwork in such noble company!

This photograph was taken when I dropped my glasses on the beach. If you look closely you can see them on the top left of the picture. Not easy to see and especially difficult when not wearing your specs!!!!

Have you 'twigged' what the subject of this image is? Close up of a resting buff-tip moth (Phalera bucephala) with its wings curled around it to look like a bit of broken branch, as protection from being picked off by birds. Photographed after release from a moth trap at Martin Mere Wetland Centre, with thanks to the volunteers working there for introducing us to a species that would be all too easy to miss.

We were on holiday in Madagascar, principally to see lemurs. On this particular day we had gone into the forest to watch, and listen to, indris, but as we were walking along the guide shone his torch on to a small tree. We could see nothing, but he urged us to look closer and as we scrutinised the trunk the leaf-tailed gecko turned his head into the torchlight. He was only a few inches long and if we had been by ourselves I'm sure we would have passed by the tree without a second look. Moral of the tale - keep your eyes open!

This is the wild and shady corner of my garden, sandwiched between my house and next door's, where I can sit reading, hidden from views from neighbouring windows. Believe it or not, these are not weeds. Weeds are actually unwanted plants in the wrong place. The photo was taken in May and by mid June it was full of flowers for the bees. Hidden under the shrubbery at the back of the area are two rustic water features, homes for newts and frogs, guarded by a concrete alligator 🤣 There's also a homemade bug hotel, a stumpery/leaf mound for my garden hedgehog, and a blackbird nest.
