Future Lives is a UK-wide u3a group which shares information and resources to inspire, influence and inform members about how we can improve our future lives.
How can we add life to our years, and maintain our independence and quality of life for as long as possible?
The u3a Future Lives Group is run by u3a members across the country. We aim to challenge attitudes and break down physical barriers that limit and restrict people as they get older.
What can we do to improve unsuitable homes or products, isolation and poor health? Good design can be liberating – and the reverse is true! Let’s use our collective voice to bring about change.

We want to hear what u3a members have to say, share information and stimulate ideas that will help us all live our best possible future lives.
We host a series of free online events that we’d love you to join. You can access the slides and some videos for which we have copyright compliance - see previous online webinars.

Eating Well for Health and Vitality in Later Life
Mon 22 Sept, 2pm
Sue Maxen
Want to stay healthy and energised in later life? Find out how nutrition can support your strength and wellbeing. This session will also cover the signs and symptoms of malnutrition, and practical steps to tackle this.
Explore how wearable technologies such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, and fall detectors can support you in living healthier, more independent lives. These devices have the potential to improve quality of life, assist with self-health management and support early detection of health issues. However, despite these benefits, older adults underutilise these technologies and often face barriers that prevent them from fully using or trusting these technologies. Learn about the key challenges and usability issues older adults experience, and how better, more inclusive designs can help ensure no one is left behind as healthcare goes digital. We will also discuss what the future may look like as these technologies become more common in smart hospitals, remote monitoring and assisted living environments.
If you have any suggestions for speakers or topics please get in touch with us by email. In the meantime, you can catch up on any talks you missed below or, better still, watch them again.
