Tiny Fuschia

Found in New Zealand. I found it a challenge to do justice to the striking colours, especially the blue pollen, of this tiny fuchsia, (Fuchsia procumbens) a native plant of New Zealand.

Kookaburra On Cue

A bay south of Perth, Western Australia. A flock of kookaburras came down into the park at the bay just before dusk. I managed to get close to this single one by hiding behind various trees and approaching quietly. Fortunately, it stayed put for the photo. I have named the photo 'Kookaburra on cue' because it was timely that it had alighted at that moment, but also, I believe 'cue' is Yorkshire dialect for a bench.

Pop Up Toadstools

Seen on a regular walk at Sunningdale Golf Course - not there one day and then popped up the next. Very cheerful but not sure if they are fly agaric with tops turned up?! Still a cheery autumn sight.

Black Fungi

As my recognition of fungi is very limited, I was unable to identify these unusual black fungi which I found recently growing in Cholmondley Castle Gardens near Chester. Perhaps someone with a knowledge of mycology can help?

During a recent visit to Seaham, County Durham, I was delighted to be treated to a small murmuration of starlings. After the display, one starling alighted on a direction sign just above my head, proudly displaying its beautiful colours.

Lovebirds

Morecambe Bay close to Ulverston canal. I took several photos of the courtship dance of this pair of lovebirds, they were spinning round and moving around in the water just offshore. All the while they were in intimate contact with each other and all being well, they should be a couple for life.

On a visit to Hidcote Gardens I was fascinated by the interesting features on the trunk of this tree.

How Well Camouflaged

Found on Point of Ayre, Isle of Man. This small bird is difficult to spot amongst the pebbles at the Point of Ayre on the Isle of Man which is an important breeding ground for colonies of these Arctic terns. They are classified as Schedule 1 protected birds under the Wildlife Act 1990. Research shows the birds make an estimated 50,000 mile journey to breed in these sites.

Red Admiral For Lunch?

I was photographing a Red Admiral at Gregnog Garden, 2nd week of November I was surprised to even see one, when a wasp landed on it and the butterfly flew off. We saw it flying about for a time so think it survived as wasps are predators of other insects and I think it though it had found a meal.
