I have been running the Braunton Sociology group for several years now. We established early on that we did not want to set up a group to do examinations or even a GCSE or A-Level course. I do aim it about A-Level, but I know my students very well. We only wanted to study the subject for interest and pleasure.
We have looked at:
Democracy
Teaching in the 21st century
Theoretical approaches to the family
Freedom of speech
Has social media influenced the balance of power
What is artificial intelligence
Modern day slavery
Resources
In general, our meetings include a Powerpoint and lots of discussion. Occasionally I ask attendees to read something beforehand. Sometimes this discussion is quite topical – are strikes morally right, or will artificial intelligence change society?
I am willing to give anyone who asks access to my Powerpoints. I have many, but some of the topics are listed above.
There are many more - just ask via my contact form for these or any other support with starting or running your Sociology interest group.
